WordPress.org Promotes 100% GPL MarketPlace

Have you noticed anything new on WordPress.org lately? I have.

Right smack on the front page there is a new ad for a MarketPlace that is 100% GPL compliant, well, at least what I like to call WordPress GPL Compliant. And yes, there is a distinction, but that’s a story for another day.

Perezbox WordPress MarketPlace Support

I actually meant to write about this, last week I think, when I first saw signs of stink unfolding on the #dramapress train (courtesy of Brad) and got consumed with life. This evening it came up again on our favorite show, DradCast, in which Matt Mullenweg co-hosted the show with the two banditos we love to hate and hate to love – Brad and Dre. You can catch the full show here.

But Back to the Point…

WordCamp San Diego 2013 – PressNomics For All

This was an interesting year for me when it comes to WordCamp San Diego.

It was the third one being held in the city and the first in which I was not involved. I have to admit, it was odd but pleasant. I remember a conversation in which someone told me that WordCamp organizers are perhaps the most under-appreciated volunteers in the WordPress eco-system, and I have to admit they probably are. Having been part of the organizing team for the first two I know first hand the obstacles they face and have to overcome to be successful. Which is also one of the reasons I am volunteering to help the WordCamp Guidelines committee.

In a few short words, “Thank you organizers for a job well done!!”

Speaking of which, if you haven’t, I encourage you to take a minute to take our public survey on the guidelines here: http://make.wordpress.org/events/2013/03/08/wordcamp-guidelines-report-5/

But I Digress…

WordCamp Orange County 2012 – WordPress Security Presentation

I was a great experience giving the WordPress Security presentation at WordCamp Orange County this year.

Big shout out to the organizers, Brandon Dove, Jeffrey Zinn and Robert Nienhaus.

Thanks to Daniel CidMark Jaquith, Andrew Nacin, and Dre Armeda for taking time to review and provide guidance.

For those interested, here are the slides from the presentation. Hope to get a copy of the video and will include that when they are published.

Kudos to WordPress.org – Community Summit 2012

After all the fuss I stirred up with the release of WordCamp San Francisco sponsorship packages a week ago, I felt compelled to take a minute to commend the WordPress leadership on today’s release of a Community Summit set for later this year, 2012.

Of the entire post my biggest take away was this:

Core code isn’t the only way to contribute to the WordPress project. We have an active theme review team, support forum volunteers, people writing documentation, plugin managers, community event organizers, translators, and more. The teams have been siloed for too long, so we’ve recently begun the process of bringing them together by having teams elect representatives to facilitate more communication between the contributor groups.

Speaking at WordCamp Orange County 2012 – June 2nd / 3rd

So this is kind of cool, my submission to talk at WordCamp Orange County was accepted.

I think what makes it extra cool is that of the number of camp’s that I have attended, I am a camp speaking virgin. Don’t get me wrong, if you have hung out with me at the after party or at any of the socials then you know talking is not my problem. Especially if on a subject I am passionate about.

What most don’t realize though is that I was only recently introduced to WordPress and its communities, January of 2010. That’s when my brother-in-law and confidant, Dre Armeda, introduced me to the platform and all the other goodness that comes with it (i.e., tacos and fizzypops). Since, it has been an exciting roller coaster of an experience. In that time I have been part of the organizing team for two WordCamps and engaged with two start-ups, one that was built around offering platform specific service and the other that focuses specifically on web-security. The latter is what I’ll spend my time talking about at WordCamp Orange County. [Read more...]
