Know Your Clients

I don’t know why I don’t write more about business, finances or projects, but maybe this is the start.. who knows..

What I do know is that I sat in a great talk this weekend by my good friend Steve Zehngut, Founder and CTO of Zeek Interactive. To get a sense of how awesome they are just check out their Google tagline:

WordCamp San Diego 2013 – PressNomics For All

This was an interesting year for me when it comes to WordCamp San Diego.

It was the third one being held in the city and the first in which I was not involved. I have to admit, it was odd but pleasant. I remember a conversation in which someone told me that WordCamp organizers are perhaps the most under-appreciated volunteers in the WordPress eco-system, and I have to admit they probably are. Having been part of the organizing team for the first two I know first hand the obstacles they face and have to overcome to be successful. Which is also one of the reasons I am volunteering to help the WordCamp Guidelines committee.

In a few short words, “Thank you organizers for a job well done!!”

That made me laugh hysterically because it reminded me of my own conversations with my mom a few years back and it went a little something like this:

Review of the WordPress AntiVirus Plugin – Effective or Not?

After my most recent Review of the WordPress WordFence Plugin post I felt it was only fair that I take time to review the effectiveness of other similar security focused plugins in the WordPress.org repository.

It’s important to understand that while I work for an InfoSec company my focus is not on whether its a competitive product, but rather how useful it is to end-users and how effective it is at detecting malware. The goal is to establish an unbiased review, leveraging the large repository of web-based malware variants I have at my disposal.

I stumbled on the AntiVirus plugin while crawling the repository and was naturally curious. The plugin repository description is not very exhaustive, but appears to succinctly articulate what it was designed to do.

The Concept of a “Pressnomics” Conference

Today it was publicly released that there is a new conference for businesses that leverage the WordPress platform as part of their service offering or as part of the business architecture – Pressnomics. It took me a minute to sick back and really think about the conference and how it differs from what we know of today as a WordCamp.

At first glance I couldn’t help but think that maybe, just maybe, it had more to do with getting away from the Foundations oversight and breaking free from the perceived shackles. I would probably argue that some might still think that at first glance, and so I decided to think through it a bit more. [Read more...]
