I had a follow-up with my Orthopedic Surgeon this morning. This was where he spent the time explaining what he saw when he was in my knee.
The coolest part of the session was seeing the pictures. The actual explanation, on the other hand, was not so cool.
Turns out that I had torn 80% of my meniscus…:(… He made a decision to repair it because he saw signs that it was trying to repair itself (i.e., the healthy section was pumping out blood). So what does this mean?
Well, I have to be on crutches for 6 weeks. Yes, 6 weeks. This means, no therapy until the December 21st time frame. I am already dreading traveling with a silly crutch. I wonder, does that count as a carry on?
Why the long period of crutches? As the doc explained it, while I might feel ok, the tear was so significant that if I don’t allow the two parts to fuse together the stitches will give way, causing a new tear. If it tears again, he would then be forced to remove it all. :( He then proceed to explain all the great things that will happen if he has to remove it..
Needless to say, I plan to be married to my crutches the next couple of weeks. Have no fear I already have my crutch WP sticker ready to go..:)
