With Enough Brute Force You Can Accomplish Anything
A colleague used to say:
Tony, you are exactly what they mean when they say “with enough brute force you can accomplish anything.”
– A colleague
I would laugh, but inside it would hurt. I remember thinking how it simplified, diminished, the work I was doing. It was always in the context of my ability to execute, the ability to get things done (even against the odds).
Embracing Self
Over the years, however, I have grown fonder of the phrase and have started to leverage it as a reminder of the importance of perseverance.
Perseverance: persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.
– Abraham Lincoln most likely..
Since, I have also read Angela Duckworth’s book, Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance and have gained a deeper understanding, appreciation, for my style of work.
Every day, I am also reminded by my team mates in BJJ that even when you find yourself in what feels like a lost position, you’re never quite out of the game. It always comes down to the one that preserves, pushing just a bit more to the end, that wins. You’re almost always right at the end when you decide to quit.
And like I tell my kids, if you don’t believe in yourself, or your ability to get it done, why should I, or anyone else for that matter. So yes, sometimes it just takes pure will, pure brute force, to keep moving forward.
Be You
So all this to remind you entrepreneurs, you creators of things, everything seems impossible until it’s not. Keep building. Keep Creating. Keeping being amazing.
They never believe in you, until they do.
– Definitely Thomas Jefferson
